2003-05-11 - war, what is it good for & mothers day 2003

i have tried several blogging sites and this one is the most intelligable. low-brow gal that i am. i am not a technophobe, but abstract-thinking and intuative... that does not work well with certain reality-based modes of technology.

i am trying to NOT work today, tho i am at work- it is mothers day, fer chrys-sake! being a surrogate mother of three means that i get to work and let other biological mothers take the day off.

the mother-daughter connection seems like a dark undertow for me that means that you get sucked into an eddy of bad relational backwater.

i work at a public garden in southern california, a destination for mother's day- we have brunch, tea, harpist, and of course nature out the ying-yang (spring in so cal is gorgeous!!!). i see mothers with lots of expectations being nervous & edgy about how they will or won't be recognized, seen, understood, appreciated. some very happy mothers, some very crabby.

a co-worker told me that mothers day started as a peace rally and turned all "hallmark-cardish" some time later. like all things- christmas, easter... the real start-up reason for things gets lost.

i remember as a kid the first time i realized that the fourth of july fireworks were symbolizing "rocket's read glare of bombs bursting"! pretty horrifying- the beautiful fireworks, the ooohs & aaaahs were really about blow-em-up war!

and who b-b-qs on memorial day with a bunch of dead veterans in mind? yummy thots.

so we want peace today, everyday. on mothers day. in our land, our homes, with our mothers, with our planetary neighbors. peace, peace, where there is no peace. not yet, anyway. any subversive plans for peace are gratefully entertained here...
